All children learn differently. In order to maximize the learning experience of each child, personalized education is essential. At St. Benilde School, student support is broken down by layers. The Archdiocese of New Orleans has a long history of offering Catholic education to students with developmental disabilities. In 1965, St. Michael’s Special School was established to serve children and young adults with special education needs and continues to meet the needs of many Catholic families today. For the first time this year, Saint Paul’s has embraced the principle of inclusive education by designing a program for Catholic high school aged boys whose families desire a Catholic education. In its inaugural year, five students are currently enrolled in a specially-designed, inclusive education model tailored to meet the individual needs of each CORE Pack enrollee. Our program is a Catholic Opportunity to Receive a Responsive Education using a specialized program designed to seamlessly integrate our exceptional needs students into the overall St. Paul's Wolf community of learners. Our Lady of Lourdes
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is committed to helping children with developmental disabilities and their families by providing individualized education, which focuses on spiritual, academic, physical and social development, so that our students will grow in God’s grace
The Exceptional Learners Program is an initiative in partnership with the Department of Catholic Education and Faith Formation to provide a quality Catholic education for students with developmental disabilities. The program is a self-contained classroom where students will receive small group and one-on-one instruction. A lead special education teacher and an interventionist teacher will work with each child on individual educational and developmental goals. The students will also have the opportunity to participate in enrichment classes with their grade level peers (Art, PE, Spanish, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, etc.) as well as assemblies, Mass, Chapel visits, field trips and other classroom activities.
