Catholic Identity Standards – Critical Questions

The schools of the Archdiocese of New Orleans are authentically Catholic schools, guided by the National Catholic Identity Standards.  These Standards are based upon research-based Defining Characteristics of Catholic Schools.  The Archdiocese uses these Defining Characteristics to guide the everyday life of the school.  These “Critical Questions” aligned with the Defining Characteristics are provided to help school personnel implement a Catholic school culture.

Centered in the Person of Jesus Christ

1. Is the school’s Mission centered in Jesus?
2. Do school personnel encounter Jesus daily in the Gospel?
3. Are school personnel aware that they are responsible for establishing a climate of encountering Jesus in each other among members of the school community?
4. Does the school community encounter Jesus in the Eucharist and in the Sacrament of Reconciliation on a regular basis?

5. Are the members of the school community aware that the essence of being a Catholic is being a missionary disciple within a community of faith?
6. Does the school faculty meet to foster and nurture evangelization?

7. Do members of the administration and faculty model a commitment to lifelong learning?
8. Are all students challenged by differentiated learning appropriate to them?

9. Are school personnel aware of and committed to the person each student is becoming,  through what the student is learning?

 
Steeped in a Catholic Worldview

10. Are members of the administration and faculty aware of Catholic social teaching?
11. Is Catholic  teaching incorporated throughout the school curriculum?

12. Are school employees hired with Gospel witness in mind?
13. Does the administration provide opportunities for growth in living Gospel values?
