When does “Certification” (Initial Formation) Need to be Achieved?
While we have moved away from a “certification” model for formation, all individuals must complete their Initial Formation within 3 years of becoming a catechist in the school (High School teaching requirements differ - click HERE)
All individuals teaching Religion in school must have taken at least one Initial Formation workshop prior to teaching in our Catholic Elementary Schools
Core Workshops Necessary for “Initial Formation” as a Catechist
Upon completion of Initial Formation, the expectation for catechists/leaders is that annually they will all engage in the following (regardless of degree status):
One formation workshop offered through Franciscan at Home or one of our partners
Click here to browse and choose an available workshop offered through Franciscan at Home (and be sure to select that you wish to have the workshop mentored).
AND
One other formation experience of a person’s choosing (e.g., a retreat, webinar, spiritual reading, Christian service/outreach, catechetical conference).
When you engage in any of these other formation opportunities of your choosing, we ask that you complete the very brief "Ongoing Formation Reflection" sheet which can be accessed HERE.
